HDR Engineering, Inc. (HDR)
HDR is seeking a Bridges and Structures Section Manager in our Mechanicsburg, PA, office to lead and grow our structures team in central Pennsylvania. The Mechanicsburg Section Manager will be responsible for management of structures staff, delivery of project submissions, staff development, project profitability, staff morale, and quality control. They will function as a Project Manager or Project Engineer on large / complex infrastructure projects. They will be involved in business development planning, client management, proposal preparation, and interviews not only in Central PA, but across the state as qualifications and past experience match. The Section Manager will see that all work is planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated through a pro-active project management system, and subsequently implement, monitor, and support company policies. They will also select, train, and develop technical personnel and work cooperatively with Area Leadership, National Directors, and Marketing Leads.
Additional Responsibilities will include:
• Coordinate with our Pittsburgh and Plymouth Meeting Section Managers to balance staff workload, provide/identify staff training opportunities, and identify/pursue business development opportunities
• Lead multi-disciplined transportation design teams as a Project Manager or Project Engineer for local and workshare projects
• Lead technical design for DOT and local agency highway bridges, along with bridge load ratings
• Drive business development efforts within Central PA, including involvement in marketing planning and client management
• Establish client relationships and lead marketing of new and existing clients
• Lead the development and review of proposals, project scopes, schedules, and budgets
• Mentor less-experienced staff, and act as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design with a proven background of technical leadership on these types of projects
• Prepare and review project budgets for the bridge design section and track budget status
• Independently coordinate work of engineers and balance the project delivery team throughout project development
• Conduct analyses, develop design solutions, and prepare design drawings, calculations, and specifications for bridge engineering projects, including checking calculations and designs done by others
• Perform quality control reviews of bridge design projects
Required Qualifications:
BS degree in Civil Engineering
Minimum of 10 years of bridge/structural design experience
PE in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain within six months of hire
Proven hands-on experience in all aspects of bridge design projects with a focus on PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike projects
Experience using Microstation, LARSA 4D (or similar structural analysis software), and typical structural analysis programs and bridge design software used in the industry
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the LRFD Bridge Design Code
Demonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teams
Must be comfortable being viewed as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design and have proven background of technical leadership on these types of projects
Must enjoy mentoring and teaching other staff
Must have the ability to handle multiple assignments

Preferred Qualifications:
MS degree in Structural Engineering
Excellent marketing and business development skills
Experience managing staff, clients, and contracts
Experience with BIM for bridges, digital delivery for projects, and/or parametric modeling software

Senior Structure Engineer – We are looking for a team member in our Transportation Design Group with the desire to grow within our Structure Department.
Responsibilities:
Perform structure design tasks on transportation improvement projects
Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates for contract bidding
Assist with field inspections of bridges and culverts
Coordinate design elements over multiple disciplines
Complete designated assignments and report progress to project engineers
Mentor, review, and check work of junior staff
Perform field views and attend on-site and off-site meetings
Participate in proposal development, project scoping, and project staffing projections

Qualifications:
4 to 8 years of direct experience in the design of transportation projects
BS. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university is required

Fundamental of Engineering (FE)/Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required, PE License preferred
MicroStation experience required
Proficient knowledge of AASHTO bridge design code, PennDOT bridge design software, and structural analysis programs such as STAAD required
Ability to perform project site visits
PennDOT/PA Turnpike experience preferred
CADD Administrator – We are currently seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our Transportation Design Group in our Harrisburg office.
Responsibilities:
Strong technical ability to develop, test, and implement CADD macros/programs/ platforms
Maintain company specific CADD tools and implement new tools
Assist in resolving questions from team members
Provide input for company CADD usage planning
Ability to review CADD drawings for consistency, and recommend changes in CADD design workflow or process to improve efficiency and effectiveness
Ability to plan and implement training corporate wide
Work collaboratively with other team members, consultants, and our clients
Qualifications:
Associate Degree (additional training preferred).
Minimum 8 years of CADD experience.
Working knowledge of CADD software, including Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, MDL, basic programming, and ability to develop and maintain MicroStation workspaces is preferred.
Strong work ethic.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
